Missionary & Service Opportunities

Our Mission field is everywhere.  It is all around us.  It is in our homes, our neighborhoods, our schools, our communities.  It is also in other parts of our country and other parts of the world.  We all can serve in many ways.  We may not all be able to go to other parts of the world, but we can support those who do.  There are many ways that we can use the time, talents, and treasures that God has given each of us to support our own congregation and school as well as spreading the Gospel message of Jesus Christ in our own communities.  If you are interested in helping in any way you can contact us to find out more about these and other opportunities to serve at Emanuel and beyond.

Emanuel Lutheran Church and School have many opportunities to volunteer or serve.  Some examples including donating items for the school and child care programs, serving on boards or committees, teaching Sunday School, donating food for local food banks, or helping maintain the building and grounds.  These are just a few examples.

For those interested in knitting or crocheting we have a Prayer Shawl Ministry group.  All interested people may join the group as they meet for fellowship and learning while they work on shawls that are given to those who are home bound or in the hospital.  We have 6-8 ladies including several beginners working on different styles and color shawls!  The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice, made in an atmosphere of prayer, with thoughts of care and comfort for whoever may receive one.  As our supply increases, we would like to look into using these shawls as an outreach tool.  This group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00PM in room 4.  See the Church calendar for more information on when the group meets.

The Emanuel Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society meets monthly from September to June and raise money through various activities during the year to support missions both home and abroad.  There are many ways that your talents can help support this work.  The many fundraisers require many volunteers with a variety of different skill sets needed.  Attend any meeting (posted on the Church calendar) or contact the Church office to be put in touch with a member of the Women’s Missionary Society for more information.

Emanuel First also works with and supports our Campus Ministry program. Located near MSU Campus and serving MSU and LCC Students and visiting professionals.  To find out more visit their website: https://msu.edu/~welsluth/
